Castoreum is a secretion from the castor sacs of beavers. It has been traditionally used in perfumery to add a rich, leathery, and slightly smoky note to fragrances. Although synthetic alternatives are now more common, natural castoreum is still prized in niche perfumery for its depth and complexity.
