CO2 Extraction

CO2 extraction uses supercritical carbon dioxide as a solvent to extract essential oils, producing high-quality oils with a broad range of aromatic compounds.

History

CO2 extraction is a relatively new method, praised for producing purer, more aromatic oils.

Process

CO2 is pressurized until it becomes "supercritical," a state between a gas and a liquid. This supercritical CO2 is passed through the plant material to extract the oils.

Required Equipment

  • CO2 Extractor
  • Separator

Extraction Details

  • Extraction Time: 4-5 hours
  • Raw Material: 1000 grams of plant material
  • Yield: 2-4% of essential oil (20-40ml per 1000g)
  • Temperature Range: 31-33°C
  • Water Ratio: N/A

Tips for Best Results

  • This method is ideal for extracting oils with high sensitivity to heat.
  • Use CO2 extraction for high-quality oils with a wide range of aromatic compounds.
